The 9 Ways to be
9 Ways to BE Happy
and Make Something of your Life
Gordon B. Hinckley
1. Be Grateful
Grateful is the feeling or showing an appreciation of kindness; thankful. Ways to be grateful include that you must remember the bad. When you remember how hard life was and how far you got, you start to develop a contrast in your mind. Another way you could be grateful is learning some prayers for gratitude. In some spiritual traditions, its is known that the most important prayer is the ones where you give thanks because you recognize all you have and all you should be thankful for. Furthermore, you should come to your senses that you have all your ability and that you woke up alive this day. Many people take each day of their lives for granted. they think they are so young there is no possible way they will die because they are so healthy. But nobody never knows when their final day will come. A human body is not only a miraculous construction but also a gift. Moreover, thinking outside the box really helps you.
"Let us be grateful to people who make us happy, they are charming gardeners who make our souls blossom."- Marcel Proust

Some ways I can apply this to my life is to be thankful for everything even the small parts. I will look at life as a gift not a right.
2. Be Smart

Being smart is having or showing a quick-witted intelligence. One way to be smart is by managing your time online. You don't have to check your social media every time you have a break. You should replace a couple of minutes of that time to researching something more nourishing to your brain. Another thing you can do is to reflect on what you learn everyday. Just 400 words can improve your brainpower greatly as well as vocabulary. This also helps remember things better. This reflection can be a 'Did List'. This type of list can bring you happiness to see all you have done and maybe even accomplished. One fun and great way to gain intelligence is to play a board games and puzzles. These games may be a scramble, crossword, chess, battleship, connect 4, etc. Sometimes having friends that are smarter than you can boost your intelligence and self-esteem. Furthermore, reading improves your vocabulary and academic skills. And remember if you can't put it in words, you don't know or didn't understand. So make sure to paraphrase what you learn to other people.
"Whatever you do in life, surround yourself with smart people who'll argue with you."-John Wooden
3. Be Involved in Good Works

Therefore, you should keep a vision of you dream future and make goals to work toward this, not away. You shouldn't be worried about making mistakes. Some people say that a mistake is bad. However, in my opinion, I believe that mistakes help you gain experience and knowledge. Also, you work and get a little bit closer to perfection. Remember what Thomas A. Edison said "I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that wont work." Know your strengths and be kind to yourself. Lastly, Don't ever forget to laugh.

6. Be Positive
Being positive is when you see the optimistic viewpoint in a negative situation. When you are in a situation where you think is bad, you should always ask yourself, "What is the good opportunity I'm getting out of this?" Also, in order to stay positive, you should hang out with people that will lift you up rather than drag you down. These supports will influence your outlook on life. One major factor that will make your thoughts negative is that some people go fast. They do their daily things so fast that eventually they will become stressed and won't be positive. That is why you must slow down and relax.
"Work hard for what you want because it won't come to you without a fight. You have to be strong and courageous and know that you can do anything you put your mind to. If somebody puts you down or criticizes you, just keep on believing in yourself and turn it into something positive."-Leah La Belle

7. Be Humble
Being humble is when you have or show a modest or low estimate of one's importance. Some synonyms are respectful and unassertive. One way to be humble is to accept that you are to the best at everything. There will always be some things that you are not good at.This doesn't mean that you should give up on your dreams or not lean anything new. This mean that we are all humans and therefore we are not perfect. Another thing is that you shouldn't judge someone before you judge yourself. Judging or criticizing is bad and harmful to everyone. This prevents new relationships from forming. Also remember to always be grateful for everything you have and don't take anything for granted. Furthermore, you shouldn't be afraid to make mistakes. Everyone learns from them and in case you do a mistake, don't be afraid to admit it. Moreover, you should avoid bragging because this won't take you anywhere. In fact, bragging will take you away from being humble. Lastly, don't take all the credit. If you know that you didn't do everything yourself or you couldn't have done it without someone's help, you should always give them thanks.
"Talent is God given. Be humble. Fame is man-given. Be grateful. Conceit is self-given. Be careful." John Wooden

8. Be Still
Being still is when you stay calm. You shouldn't force anything to happen. You should much rather stay calm and still to wait for what you are waiting for to happen. For example, some people try to force love in their life. However, they should realize that not everyone is right for them. They should wait for the right one to come.
"Once I knew only darkness and stillness... my life was without past or future... but a little word from the fingers of another fell into my hand that clutched at emptiness, and my heart leaped to the rapture of living"-Helen Keller

9. Be Prayerful
"In my deepest, darkest moments, what really got me through was a prayer. Sometimes my prayer was 'Help me.' Sometimes a prayer was 'Thanks you.' What I've discovered is that intimate connection and communication with my creator will always get me through because i know my support, my help, is just a prayer away."-Iyanla Vanzant

The 9 Ways Concluding words by Gordon B. Hinckley
"There they are, nine Be’s which, if observed, will bring handsome dividends to any young man or woman. They will add sparkle to your days and peace to your nights. They will save you from heartache and pain. They will bring purpose into your life and give direction to your energies. They will bring you friends of your own kind. They will protect you from associations that would pull you down and deflect you from your course. This is a time to be happy. This is a time to feel joy and make friends and enjoy the best this life has to offer. What I have tried to put forth .... are simply a few suggestions, gained from many years of living, to help you do just that. The world will tell that certain kinds of things will bring you happiness – things such as popularity and possessions and satisfying your baser desires. If today you find yourself only drifting as a leaf in a stream, get hold of yourself and determine you will do better. At railroad grade crossing, signs of warning were once common. Two cross arms were emblazoned with the words, “Stop, Look, Listen.” They meant that a train could be roaring down the tracks and you had better be alert.
I was riding a train in the Midwest years ago. I looked out the window to my left. A road ran parallel to the tracks. A car with a boy and a girl was speeding down the road a little faster than the train. The car moved ahead until I can no longer see it. Suddenly, the locomotive whistle sounded and the train screeched to a halt as the brakes gripped the wheels. We looked out the window on to the other side. There was a mangled car. Police cars soon converged, followed by the ambulance. The boy and girl were both dead. The road they were traveling crossed the tracks. They did not stop, look, or listen. It all happened in an instant. The better way to be is the way of these nine be's.
The years will inevitably pass quickly. today is your day of resolution. Promise yourself to make something good of precious life."
